In the next future, our daily life will be constantly controlled through distributed intelligent systems based on sensing and actuation devices. In this context, buildings will be monitored both to have information about the health of their structure and to keep a good comfort level for their inhabitants optimizing the energy spent. The most promising technologies allowing such distributed control comprehend Internet of Things and Wireless Sensor and Actuator Networks (WSANs). Such technologies introduce groups of (potentially autonomous) small devices with sensing/actuation, communication, and computation capabilities.This cycle of seminars will introduce the WSAN technology, overview the most important WSAN programming frameworks proposed in the literature so far, and, in particular, focus on the detailed description and evaluation of the Building Management Framework (BMF), also with reference to real developed case studies. Moreover, some IoT platforms will be overviewed and a specific focus will be given to iSapiens and to some case studies implemented by using it.
